My memories from the German occupation
My dad was caught in a big roundup and held in custody at the station. We cried and worried that he would be taken to Germany, where he would face hunger, cold, torment, and finally death. A few days after the roundup, the Germans erected gallows in our town. Dad was still in custody. We were worried about him. After the execution, we went to the market square with fear. We were glad that dad was not among the hanged. They took him to Berlin. He has recently returned home.
