On 16 November 1948 the Magistrates’ Court in Zwoleń, with Judge Łowicki presiding and with the participation of a reporter, Gwarek, interviewed the person mentioned hereunder as a witness. Having advised the witness of the criminal liability for making false declarations and of the significance of the oath, the Judge took an oath therefrom, following which the witness testified as follows:

Before the harvest of 1942 (I don’t remember the date), while on the road in the village of Stefanów, I saw two German gendarmes – who had driven up in a motor car – take Bronisław Śmietanka and his brother, Józef, from the smithy. They were led in the direction of the village of Zamość. When they were some 1½ km distant, I heard shots. I soon learned that the Śmietanka brothers had been executed there. One of the gendarmes – who perpetrated the killings – went by the surname of Hajt; both were from Zwoleń. I don’t know the reasons for the execution.
