As to the hanging of 10 hostages in Nowa Wieś, I know that in the month of May in 1943, a truck packed with people, who were surrounded by a great number of gendarmes, arrived in Nowa Wieś. I guessed that they were hostages because they were emaciated and pallid. Having entered the premises of the forester’s lodge, the gendarmes cordoned off the yard and ordered the hostages to build a scaffolding and dig pits. When a gallows was erected, the gendarmes placed 10 hostages under it and ordered the other 10 to fasten nooses around these people’s necks. When the sentence was read out – I didn’t hear it, as I didn’t want to, it was abhorrent – the torturers hanged 10 hostages. When a doctor declared the unfortunates dead, the gendarmes ordered that the corpses be loaded onto a car, and then they all left in the direction of Kamyk. I would like to add that to witness this sad event, the Germans herded a lot of people from the surrounding areas, and those who didn’t want to go were even beaten, so as a result everyone had to go, although unwillingly, because we feared repression by the enraged Hitlerite torturers. I cannot say anything else regarding the present case.
