1) With regards to the presented case, I know Maximilian Grabner from Vienna, who was the head of the Political Department at the Auschwitz camp, from the beginning of the camp in 1940 to November 1943, holding the rank of SS-Untersturmführer and the police rank of criminal secretary [Kriminalsekretär]. I met him in the kitchen where I worked as a bookkeeper at the time. He was the most severe perpetrator in Auschwitz and has the deaths of about two million people on his conscience, since he personally passed death sentences and participated in executions.

I know a specific case of Stanisław Dubiel, currently residing in Dzierżoniów, Wrocław voivodeship, [...]. The death sentence had been passed and he was to be executed, but the camp commandant was protecting him. It was Grabner who objected to this protection and insisted on carrying out the sentence to the point that the case reached Himmler and only thanks to that, Dubiel was spared.

Grabner gave orders to torment prisoners and also personally abused them. Prisoners were executed on his orders. Executions took place in his presence in block 11. I could provide the names of the victims but that would require me to give it more thought and recall these people.

2) I also met Hans Aumeier, who held the rank and function mentioned in the public notice. He was very similar to his predecessor – he did not pass death sentences, but he did attend executions. He was also present when prisoners were gassed. As the camp leader he disciplined prisoners with elaborate tortures, such as the “post” and flogging. Sometimes he personally beat prisoners, especially in the face, but he normally only gave orders to torture them.

3) I also met Herbert Ludwig who held various functions, but mainly served as a Blockführer [block leader] at various blocks, including my block 25 for some time. I am not aware of any instances of him killing someone, but he did sadistically torture prisoners. I do not remember what year it was, but I saw him order his prisoners to squat down and when someone could not endure it, he abused them. He mostly beat prisoners with a stick. I do not recall the names of his victims.

I may know others in the photographs I was presented with by sight, but I cannot testify about them personally.

The report was read out and signed.
