On 17 September 1947 in Ruda Śląska, the Municipal Judge Z. Skąpski from the Municipal Court in Ruda Śląska, with the participation of a clerk from R. Geilke’s office, interviewed the person named below as an unsworn witness. Having been advised of the criminal liability for making false declarations and of the provisions of Article 107 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, the witness testified as follows:
I was imprisoned in the concentration camp in Auschwitz from March 1942 to January 1945. For this reason I can provide information regarding members of the camp personnel.
1) Hans Aumeier – I testify the same as Walder and Fliegel, except I didn’t see Aumeier shoot prisoners. However, I saw him carry out the roll calls during which prisoners had to stand at attention for several hours in frosty weather. During the execution of two men who were hanged for attempting escape, Aumeier, in adressing the gathered prisoners, said that those who would try to escape would share the fate of those who were about to be executed.
2) August Bogusch Unterscharführer, head of Lagerführer’s [camp leader’s] office. Brutal
towards prisoners, he beat them on every occasion. He beat me too.
3) Therese Brandl – As far as I know she was head of the so-called Bekleidungskammer
[clothing storeroom] at the female ward. I heard that prisoners had complained about her, but I can’t give any detailed information about her.
4) I have already testified with regard to Breitwieser’s case and my testimony was referred to the Kraków District Commission for the Investigation of German Crimes two weeks ago.
5) Max Grabner – I testify the same as Fliegel and Waldera.
6) Heinrich Josten – I testify the same as Waldera and Fliegel, except I saw how Josten, drunk, beat and kicked prisoners.
7) Arthur Liebehenschel – I testify the same as Waldera and Fliegel.
8) Maria Mandl – Lagerführerin at the female ward. I saw her assist in driving prisoners from
the trains to the camp. She beat prisoners with her hands and urged other SS women to beat them too.
9) Franz Romeikat – head of the printing-house. He treated prisoners well. He was from Berlin.
10) Hans Schumacher – Unterscharführer, head of the potato storeroom. He supervised the
prisoners unloading potatoes from trains to clamps. I saw him kick and beat them with a stick. He persecuted prisoners who had to transport potatoes from the trains to the clamps in wheelbarrows in mud in autumn and winter.
I also know that the camp personnel included the following persons: Wenzel Ehm, Lorenz Christian Carstensen, Xaver Kraus, Johann Paul Kremer, Kurt Hugo Müller, Karl Ernst Möckel, Wilhelm Stegmann and Helmut Schippel, but I am unable to provide any detailed information about them.
