On 9 September 1947, the Municipal Court in Zakopane, 3rd Criminal Department, in the person of Judge M. Fałek, with the participation of a reporter, Trainee Judge K. Piwowarczyk, interviewed the person specified below as an unsworn witness. Having been advised of the criminal liability for making false declarations and of the wording of Article 107 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, the witness testified as follows:

I met Hans Schumacher in the concentration camp in Auschwitz, where I was imprisoned from 1941 until 25 October 1944. He was my immediate overseer for a year and a half of my stay at the camp. At the end of March 1943 I was assigned to a kommando which transported potatoes to the camp kitchen. At first, my task was to push the cart with the load, then I worked in the same kommando as a clerk. Hans Schumacher personally oversaw the kommando, at first as Rottenführer, then as Unterscharführer. He generally treated the prisoners who belonged to this kommando fairly decently, which did not stop him from abusing prisoners from other kommandos. Whenever he caught a prisoner stealing potatoes or other crops, he beat the guilty person senseless. When it came to the manner in which we were meant to work or to assigning workload and provisioning, he did not use any special methods of abuse. In fact, in addition to our normal rations, he sometimes gave us a sack filled with enough bread for 40 people. Schumacher participated in escorting the newly arrived prisoners to the crematoria.
