On 18 September1947, the Municipal Court in Tarnowskie Góry, Fifth Branch, with Judge J. [illegible] presiding, heard the person named below as an unsworn witness. Having been advised of the criminal liability for making false declarations and of the wording of Article 107 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, the witness testified as follows:

| I | know Hans Aumeier from Auschwitz. He started in 1943 as the Auschwitz Lagerf ü hrer [camp |
leader]. He terrorized the camp. Everyone was afraid of him. I have heard from some others, including Stefan Horzela, residing in Żyglinek, that Aumeier himself shot at the prisoners from the penal company. I once saw a bread delivery and the little bits of bread were removed from the wagon and thrown to the ground. The hungry prisoners pounced on them. Aumeier ran up, began to disperse everyone and give warning shots, and punched them.
I also know Max Grabner, he was the head of the Gestapo in the camp. He was in Auschwitz from the beginning. He terrorized the camp, I don’t know any more about him. The prisoners who went to the Political Department either didn’t come back at all, or came back tortured. Further details can be provided by Roman Taul, [illegible].
I know Josef Hiller too. I met him in 1943. He came to us as Postdienst [?] to the canteen. I can’t say anything bad about him. He was very decent towards the prisoners, he helped me take my clothes and underwear outside the camp. He allowed one prisoner to see his mother and his fiancé outside the camp. This prisoner is called Jan Folwarczny, Sucha Górna. He did this selflessly. He brought us bread, sausage and meat.
