I stayed in the Auschwitz camp from 5 April 1941 to 10 March 1943 and I personally know Hans Aumeier, who was Lagerführer [camp leader], the scourge of all prisoners and a ruthless man. He beat and kicked the prisoners and even shot at them, as I heard from other prisoners. I heard that he personally shot 18 prisoners in the punitive unit in Birkenau. As for the beating and kicking of prisoners, that I witnessed myself. He did it for no valid reason, for instance, for stamping your feet during a roll call when it was cold.
I know the other defendant as well – Max Grabner, head of the Political Depratment, was universally known as the one responsible for all the “shoot-outs” in the camp, that is, the shooting of prisoners. He personally carried out selections of prisoners for these shootings. I don’t know other members of the SS crew at Auschwitz enumerated in the list with which I was presented.
The report was read out and signed.
