WŁADYSŁAW CZERWONKA

Borkowice, 7 April 1949, at 12.00, I, platoon leader Kalkowski from the Citizens’ Militia station in Borkowice, interviewed the person specified below as a witness. Having been advised of the importance of the oath and of the right to refuse to testify for reasons specified in Article 104 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, and of the criminal liability for making false declarations pursuant to Article 140 of the Penal Code, the witness testified as follows:

Name and surname Władysław Czerwonka
Parents’ names Marcin and Marianna
Age 48
Date and place of birth 1902, village of Hucisko, Borkowice commune, Końskie District
Religious affiliation Roman Catholic
Occupation physical worker
Place of residence Hucisko, commune of Borkowice, district of Końskie

On 11 April 1940, after a battle with the Polish partisans led by “Hubal”, a German SS unit surrounded the village of Hucisko at 2.00 a.m. When people realized that the Germans had surrounded the village, they started running away into the forest. The Germans began shooting at them with machine guns from all sides. They entered the village and gathered men aged 16 to 55. They led them outside the village, ordered them to dig ditches, made them stand next to the ditches, get inside, and squat down. Then they tossed grenades into the ditches.

They killed 22 men from the village of Hucisko and then proceeded to burn down the village. Having carried out the execution, they drove off in the direction of the village of Niekłań.

I witnessed this execution because I was in the forest, some 350 meters away from the place of execution.

At this point the report was brought to a close, read out, and signed.
