ALEKSANDER ADAMSKI

Warsaw, 30 March 1945. The testimony of Aleksander Adamski, residing at Francuska Street 17, flat 3, who witnessed a public execution carried out by the Germans on 12 November 1943 at Jagiellońska Street, near the municipal slaughterhouse.

On 5 November 1943 the Germans organised a blockade of the house at Francuska Street 17, at 23.00. At the time they took my son, Ryszard (born on 7 February 1925), a student at a technical school. On 8 November my son figured on a list that had been made public through posters. Being anxious about my son’s fate, I searched for him and tried to secure his release.

On 12 November I was at the bazaar in Praga. At around 10.00 people started saying that a public execution was taking place at Jagiellońska Street. I ran over, and found myself some 100 metres from the execution spot. I saw the following things. I saw two vehicles approach, one with gendarmes, and the other with the condemned. There were 24 or 25 of them. I saw how one of the condemned persons jumped off of the vehicle, and was shot dead by the escort near the house at Jagiellońska Street 22. Being further away in the crowd, I did not see the details of the execution, but I heard the salvoes. On the same day I saw my son’s surname on the list of those executed.

I have testified in accordance with the truth. I have read the report before signing it.
