In connection with the appeal [concerning] Polish prisoners of war reported missing in the USSR, I hereby kindly submit information about my late Father, who was murdered in the camp of Ostashkov. His personal details are as follows:

1. Bazyli Grzeszczuk.
2. 27 October 1892.
3. Stanisławów.
4. State Police.
5. Taken from the police station.
6. Arrested on 17 September 1939.
7. We received two postcards, [dated] 29 December 1939 [and] 28 January 1940, from Ostashkov.
8. I have these postcards in my possession and can attach [them] to the documentation.

I thank you so much for your interest in this sad and tragic affair concerning our loved ones. My mother and I experienced six years of torment in the steppes of Kazakhstan. While in Russia, my mother wrote personally to the Central Committee in Moscow, to Stalin, in order to determine the whereabouts of her husband, giving the address of Ostashkov and the post office box (jaschik) number, but to no avail. Some men came over from the NKVD and threatened that if she wrote even one more letter, they would send her to go look for “white bears”, while her child would be brought up in an orphanage as a loyal citizen of the USSR.

I give my kindest greetings to you, Sir, and to your colleagues at the “Zorza” Editorial Office.

Yours sincerely,
Krystyna Grzeszczuk and Maria Grzeszczuk
