Dear Editor,
Having carefully checked the lists of victims of the massacre in Katyń printed both in book publications and in your weekly, “Zorza” – and on behalf of myself and my mother – I would like to provide additional information pertaining to the list of victims from the camp in Ostashkov.
my father, Jan Bilski, an inspector of the Polish State Police, served at the outbreak of the war as a deputy chief constable of the station in Ożarów, near Opatów, Kieleckie Voivodeship.
At the beginning of September, he was summoned for the concentration of forces in the area of Janów Lubelski. It was there that we saw father for the last time.
In February 1940, we received his letter from Ostashkov. My mother shared the news with our neighbors, citizens Blinowski (who is still alive) and Kobrzycki (presently deceased), residents of the above-mentioned township of Ożarów. The card from Ostashkov, which was lost during war operations, was the last message from my father.
In 1948, on the basis of depositions made by the above-named witnesses, Messrs. Blinowski and Kobrzycki, the District Court in Opatów declared my father missing in war.
Should you need more details concerning my father or his photograph, please let me know – I’ll be happy to help. My address: Antoni Bilski, Kielce […].
Yours sincerely,
Antoni Bilski
