My wartime experiences

I was at my aunt’s when the front was approaching because I was too scared to stay at home. The following day my sister went to our house, but I stayed with my aunt. Our mom was not home because the Germans took her to dig trenches. Later my mom came back and took me home.

The next day I was in a trench, I felt bad there. There were a lot of German soldiers. They were bombing Soviet trenches. There was a machine gun close to our trench. At night, when I was asleep, I didn’t hear anything. Later I woke up and saw the barracks burning, and the Germans and the Soviets shooting at each other. I did not know the way to my trench out of fear, but in the end, I found it and fell asleep.

The next day my mom woke me up to go home, but I was too scared and stayed in the trench for a while. Later I returned home.
