Warsaw, 2 December 1947. Judge Halina Wereńko, a member of the District Commission for the Investigation of German Crimes, interviewed the person named below as an unsworn witness. Having been advised of the criminal liability for making false declarations, the witness testified as follows:

On 4 September 1944, when I was hiding in St. Anthony’s Church at Senatorska Street in Warsaw, I walked down to the shelter under the church and saw the charred bodies of some 20 women and men with gunshot wounds.
I was told by J. Szwejk that these were the corpses of wounded insurgents and civilians whohad been shot dead while seeking refuge in St. Anthony’s Church.
At this point the report was concluded and read out.
