My wartime experiences
The war started at the end of July. When the Soviets came, the Germans started running away and burning down everything. People grabbed their families and ran away into the woods, because they were scared that [the Germans] would kill them. We fled to the woods because we were afraid they would kill us. At night I sat in the trench, then I climbed out to the edge of the trench. Then, I fell asleep, fell into the trench and dislocated my hand. Then we went back home.
