My wartime experiences

When the Soviets started to fight the Germans, the Germans defended themselves; however, they were not strong enough to halt the Soviet advance. When the Germans dropped their bombs, everybody was hiding in shelters, and the bombings usually happened late in the evening or at night. In the dead of the night, I saw rockets, as well as spotlights illuminating the oncoming planes. They dropped their bombs all around us, and the noise was so enormous that we heard ringing in our ears. The Germans fired at these planes from anti-aircraft cannons, making even more noise, so we were glad to see the planes leave.
