My most important wartime experience
We got up in the morning, and we had no idea, but our neighbor came and told us that there were Germans riding on horseback and that there was a lot of them. Everybody got scared. The Germans came to the village and started planting their cannons. After they finished their work, they went to sleep. At that time, I went into the woods with my sisters – only my parents stayed home. When we went into the forest, the Germans started firing. The missiles were fired from all sides, and the cannons were set up around the houses. Then, the Russian army came and started circling the village. When the Germans saw the Russian army, they started fleeing [and] fell right into Soviet hands. The Soviets took the Germans captive.
