My most important wartime experience
One morning, the Germans came to us and the war started. [The Germans] took our land, they came in cars and flew [planes], they fought in the air. They started dropping bombs, after which the Russian planes arrived, joined by planes from various [other] countries. We decided to hide in the basement.
And then we went into the woods, joined by one lady with her son [and] his dad. As the convoy was passing, a grenade exploded nearby, and there was a fire that [engulfed] our home.
We sat there for two days, and on the third day we went home, but there were only a couple of [things] left there. The Germans helped us to take the wardrobe out.
