Memories of the German occupation

My experiences from the times of the German occupation were very scary and moving at the same time. The war began on 1 September 1939. That year the Germans conscripted my dad to the army and I only had my mum. When daddy was taken to the army, we had it very bad with mum.

During the German occupation, things were very bad in Poland. Germans punished Poles for even the tiniest of infractions. I even remember the 30 hostages they brought to Wisznice and shot in the presence of all the people there in 1943. I also remember when a bomb fell near us in a meadow and killed a little girl who was grazing cows.

But after a while, the torment finally ended. In 1944 Poland was liberated by the Soviet people and the horrible enemy was no more.
