My wartime experiences

When the front was approaching on Saturday, I was at home. Dad was grazing a cow in the forest, and that was when they stole our ropes. There were Hungarians at our place, and upon departure they left us a seat [?]. I went to see dad in the woods. When I was walking back, bullets were flying over my head. When I came home, I ate lunch and went out to meet my friends. In the evening I had dinner and we went to the trench. Then I went home to stay there for a while, [and suddenly] three bombs went off, one after the other. I returned to the trench. Mum was at home with us, and dad grazed our cow in the woods.

When the war started on Sunday, my brother was not at home, he was in Majdanek [camp]. He came home later. I was very happy to see him.
