My memories of clandestine teaching
We all know how hard it was for people to live during the German occupation. Children felt it too, because they were not allowed to learn freely, only secretly. However, there were some people who wanted to teach Polish children to be useful and wise people. A lot of people paid with their lives so that their children could go to school.
I was also one of those who studied in secret. In winter, we sometimes had to bury our books in the snow. Sometimes we had to run away. When the Germans caught a child carrying a history or geography textbook, the child had to pay dearly, sometimes with his or her life. Teachers also faced terrible punishment for teaching children.
