What do the mass graves mean?

The mass graves tell us about the heroes who died in the war. They also remind us of the crimes of the Germans who shot masses of innocent Poles as hostages. If many soldiers died in one place in 1939, they are buried together in one common grave. They fought for their homeland, shed their own blood and lost their lives. They did not see freedom. We lived to see freedom thanks to the bravery of the Russian army and Polish soldiers. We honor the fallen soldiers as heroes. On All Souls’ Day, chrysanthemums, wreaths and candles were put on their graves in our cemeteries. The elderly and school children prayed for them.
