My most memorable moment from the occupation

It was a beautiful June day. The sun shone brightly, the green trees looked beautiful, and the jasmine and lilac were in bloom. It was beautiful but sad. That day the partisans took over Suchedniów; they wanted to make some kind of attack. That evening we didn’t even go to sleep, waiting to see what would happen. Suddenly we heard machine guns firing and grenades exploding, combined with unearthly screams. We could tell it was bad. A few Germans were killed then. We awaited our doom in peace and quiet, for obviously we deserved the worst: to have our houses destroyed and to be burned alive like the residents of Michniów. We were saved by a miracle, but the Germans brought completely innocent people to the station and shot them there. It was a terrible experience for me and that’s why it has stuck in my memory.
