Warsaw, 3 June 1949. A member of the Main Commission for the Investigation of German Crimes in Poland, Norbert Szuman (MA), heard the person named below as an unsworn witness. Having been advised of the criminal liability for making false declarations, the witness testified as follows:

During the Warsaw Uprising I was in the house at Bytomska Street 1. In the morning hours of 15 September, when I heard the German troops approaching, I fled from my house to the Glass House at the corner of Mickiewicza and Bohomolca streets. Shortly afterwards I heard shooting, screaming and groaning from the first houses on Bytomska Street. At the time, however, I did not know what was going on there.
It was only when I came back from Germany to Warsaw, in about the second half of May 1945, that I met my friend, artist and painter Herman (I don’t remember his last name), who told me that on 15 September 1944, some soldiers in German uniforms whom he called “Ukrainians”, having seized Bytomska Street, threw some dozen men out from the basement of the house at Bytomska Street 3, including Herman himself and his brother, placed them in the garden and executed them with a submachine gun. My friend told me that he had fallen to the ground, although he had not been hit, then had stayed motionless among the dead and at night made it to Żoliborz.
I don’t know the address of my old friend, but I have heard that he died last year. I learned from some people who had returned to Warsaw before I did that the corpses of 15 men were uncovered on the premises of the property at Bytomska Street 3. The following people should know more about this exhumation and about other details pertaining to this crime: Stanisław Borowski (residing at Bytomska Street 1, flat 9), Zygmunt Roinda (residing at Bytomska Street 1, flat 12), and the wife of Kura, one of the men who had been executed then (residing at Bytomska Street 6).
At this the report was concluded and read out.
